AISHA

Aisha was shaking as she entered the shower. She covered her eyes as the water poured over her face, trying to control her breathing. His scent clung to her, and it was still too powerful for her to think properly.

He had taken that step and her body reacted in every way it shouldn’t. Fire had run through her blood, a thrilling feeling had sent shivers down her back, and she had been locked in his intense stare. It had been… perfect.

And a lie.

He’d kissed her and she could only think of the day he left. The pain had flared back to life and given her the strength to step away.

I deserve more than to be a body in the dark.

Those were the words that had gone through her mind when she’d told him no. In that moment, she had truly felt it.

I’m going to keep believing it.

She finished washing up and stepped out, toweling off before she put on a comfortable and clean tank and yoga pants. Then she looked in the mirror and sighed as her thoughts turned to the words Jabari had said, and the offer he’d laid at her feet.

Powerful men made powerful statements.

“Use me for everything until you find a man worthy of you. Take that as payment for everything. For the hurt I’ve given you, sixteen years ago and now. For not being a good enough man to help you raise our child. Take all of it then cast me aside when you’re done with me.”

Those were powerful words. She had no idea what she was going to do with them, but she knew that from a man like Jabari, they were powerful. He was always in control. He was one of the most feared men on earth. They were a gift, freely given by him to her and probably no other on the earth, not just alive today but through all of time. A man like him couldn’t give those words to just anyone. He probably didn’t even give his father that much power over him.

She hadn’t missed the important part and there was one very important part.

She could have all of him except his heart.

She had no idea what to do about the rest of it. She would definitely appreciate the extra hand. His help cooking needed to stop, but with the weekend chores would be nice. She would take that assistance while he was around, teaching Makalo with magic. It also kept Makalo here.

The part she was stuck on was his offer of his body. She didn’t know if he really thought she would use him like this. She didn’t want to have an unwilling partner in bed. It sounded awful. She didn’t want to be a person he had to please because he promised that.

Plus, she didn’t trust her own heart. She wasn’t going to have an affair for a decade then have to move on again. It was a decade. She was bound to develop some feelings for him, or the damn love was going to unbury itself despite her best efforts.
